This spar section was designed specifically for the J Class models which are some of the largest models of all the current classes of the American Model Yacht Association. (AMYA) Since the new rules have gone into effect for the AC Class (2008) these spars are ideal for use in this class as well.

They are in stock and ready to ship in lengths up to 10 feet (120") This spar section comes in T-6 6063 aluminum and is unanodized.

The splice *IS* available for $25.00 This allows us to ship the 10' mast cut at 8' / 2' which drops the shipping costs from around $95-$110 down to around $25.00 in the USA, and around $50-$60 to Europe instead of $250!!!

This also means that the spar may be spliced to create a mast in excess of 10' The spar has been successfully spliced to lengths of 144" (12 feet) to date.

The splice itself is a 1/8th" aluminum shank that is molded inside a plastic plug. It is 8" long and runs the entire length of the plug. (pictured above I revealed part of the shank so you can see it) The fit is *exact* and tight so that the finished seam does NOT affect the sail track.

Graham Bantock upon seeing our new spar commented that it could have been more aerodynamic, and he is correct... but the reason for the flat face of the mast is because when the mast is flexed aft as the backstay is tensioned, the flat face provides a more even distribution of the force. The mast stays true and doesn't twist off to one side as a round mast may. I wanted a mast that would be stiff, but also would not twist off to one side or the other when carrying the enormous loads that these models can generate.

Booms are available, price on request based on length. This spar section when used as a boom can provide the stiffness you will need. I have seen smaller booms on J class models flexing under load.

All spars may be cut to length here in the shop prior to shipping at no additional charge.
