Santa Barbara One Design Class

Originally intended for sailing the surf and sea off the California coast, the Santa Barbara is an excellent One Design racing yacht with a reputation for excellence in performance and rugged durability. You will find no "B" rig for this boat as it was designed initially to be sailed aggressively in wind and waves that would leave most other models on the beach.

We have been producing this boat now for over two years, and are pleased to count Rich Matt and Bob DeBow among our customers.

The Santa Barbara is one of the finest sailing and most solid performing model yachts ever built. It has wonderful handling qualities and is not a boat you will hesitate to sail because of wind conditions.  It is built quite solid and can be raced aggressively. Anyone can sail a Santa Barbara, but it will take practice and skill to sail it well. One of the tightest One Design Class boats in the AMYA today, you will find older boats up to 30 years of age that are still sailed and can be competitive.

You will find the largest fleets of the S/B along the West coast in Southern California, and also in the Chicago area. There are other areas around the USA that have boats in smaller numbers, but we are working to change this and look forward to seeing continued growth in the class as the boats become available more rapidly.

There are over 1,000 boats of this type that have been produced, and the internet is helping a great deal in finding the boats that have fallen off the registry and returning them to active status and back on the water where they belong.

At 70" LOA the boat is larger than most of the other classes, but still a very manageable size. The keel is detachable if needed to help in transport, but you will find that the boat is easily moved in most of today's SUV's and cars with "fold down" rear seating. The 72" mast is easily stepped and the boat can be made ready to sail in a matter of minutes after arrival at the lake, something that was always important to me.
